Dorado STEM Academy creates rigorous, small-group learning experiences for homeschool students who are ready to move beyond surface-level experiments and step-by-step craft projects.
Students build, measure, test, take things apart, troubleshoot problems, and explain what they discover. They learn not only what happens, but why it happens—and how to investigate when the answer is not immediately obvious.
The goal is larger than completing a single project. Every program is designed to strengthen curiosity, practical competence, analytical thinking, and the confidence to ask better questions about the world.

Programs explore meaningful concepts over time rather than rushing from one disconnected activity to another. Students have the opportunity to observe, experiment, revise, and develop genuine understanding.

Students investigate the objects, systems, forces, and technologies they encounter in everyday life. They learn to see the familiar differently—and to recognize that the world around them can be understood, questioned, and improved.

How Things Work STEM Pod
A hands-on engineering lab for ages 10–14 where students investigate everyday machines, tools, structures, and mechanics.
Students build, disassemble, test, troubleshoot, and learn what makes the world around them work. -
Junior How Things Work Pod
A developmentally appropriate introduction to tools, mechanisms, motion, and simple engineering for ages 5–7.
Young learners explore through guided building, observation, testing, and plenty of thoughtful questions. -
Advanced How Things Work
An upcoming program exploring electronics, circuits, sensors, Arduino systems, and introductory coding.
Students move beyond mechanical systems to discover how modern devices sense, respond, and communicate. -
Emergency Medicine and Response
A springtime program introducing students to practical first aid, emergency decision-making, and lifesaving response skills.
Through realistic scenarios and guided practice, students learn how to remain calm, assess a situation, and take responsible action. -
Summer Intensives
Seasonal, project-based programs in gardening and hydroponics, physical science, and collaborative art projects such as mural painting.
Students develop practical skills, creative confidence, and deeper understanding through focused, hands-on summer experiences. -
Private or Group Tutoring
Professional, certified private tutoring for students in grades 3-8. Specializing in Math and Science. AP Economics tutoring also available.
Tutoring sessions are thoughtfully designed around each learner’s needs, strengths, pace, and long-term educational goals.

Bring together a group of interested students, provide a suitable location in Dorado, and choose from an existing program or inquire about a custom science or mural experience.
Partial groups are also welcome; when possible, Dorado STEM Academy can help advertise the remaining spaces.
